DIVINE at the EU CAP Network Workshop on Farm Sustainability Data Network

The ๐—™๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—บ ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐——๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฎ ๐—ก๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ (๐—™๐—ฆ๐——๐—ก) is a new European Commission initiative designed to enhance farm-level sustainability data collection and use across the EU. Building on the ๐—™๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—บ ๐—”๐—ฐ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐˜† ๐——๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฎ ๐—ก๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ (๐—™๐—”๐——๐—ก), which has provided economic insights on EU farms for 60 years, FSDN expands its scope to cover environmental, social, and economic sustainability. This will support evidence-based policymaking, benchmarking in EU, and help farmers adopt sustainable practices aligned with the Green Deal.

To facilitate the transition from FADN to FSDN, the EU CAP Network, together with the European Commission (DGAGRI), organised a workshop on February 12, 2025, in Brussels, bringing together key stakeholders such as FADN/FSDN liaison agencies, CAP managing authorities, data collectors, advisors, and farmers.

Our own Tomaz Bokan represented the Horizon Europe Divine Project, showcasing how the benchmarking platform, developed by ITC - Innovation Technology Cluster and currently tested in Slovenia with KGZS - Zavod Murska Sobota, leverages FADN data and DIH Agrifood DataSpace to help farmers optimize milkproduction. This innovative solution developed within the DIVINE project has the potential to integrate FSDN data in the future, further fostering sustainability in farming.

Promoting DIVINE at EE4M Workshops

The Horizon Europe Divine Project had a fantastic January finale, being featured in three focus group discussions organized by the Erasmus+ Project EE4M from January 29 to 31 at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering NTUA, in Athens, Greece.

ICCS-NTUA showcased DIVINE’s innovative data-driven tools and approaches to an audience of approximately 40 professionals, recent graduates, and students with backgrounds in information and communication technologies (ICT), engineering, logistics and supply chain management, product development, and entrepreneurship among others.

This event strengthened collaboration with EE4M, which focuses on engineering education and professional development within the mobility value chain. Many smart solutions developed within DIVINE could be extended to EE4M, particularly in data-driven decision making, sustainable supply chains, and digital transformation, further driving innovation across sectors.

Horizon Europe Divine Project featured in the latest issue of Irish Farmers Monthly

We couldnโ€™t have asked for a better start to 2024, as Horizon Europe Divine Project has been featured in the latest issue of Irish Farmers Monthly!

In an insightful article, Professor Kevin McDonnell from University College Dublin delved into the transformative impact of the Horizon Europe Divine Project on the agricultural landscape, explaining how it can empower cereal farmers with cutting-edge digital tools for informed decision making. Professor Kevin McDonnell emphasized the shift from intuitive decision-making based on farmers' experience to leveraging digitized data. This transition could enable farmers to make optimal decisions, fostering increased efficiency, sustainability, and profitability in their operations.

In his words: "One example of research currently underway here is the DIVINE project โ€“ an EU-funded project looking at how we can develop a fully digital model for cereal production. This would then offer a tool that can be used by farmers/agronomists and researchers to better understand all the variables and options when managing the farm. So, if our head researcher at Lyons farm wanted to decide on which crop would be best to grow, he should be able to go through all the relevant data on a laptop โ€“ looking at soil terrain, crop varieties, weather conditions etc. โ€“ and be guided towards the best decision. We are trying to build the right tools to do that. This project involves walking through every single step of growing season, capturing the data and offering an interactive tool to help farmers use that information."

Horizon Europe Divine Project presented at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference

Thrilled to announce that Horizon Europe Divine Project has been presented at the World Farmers' Organisation's stand during COP28 UAE โ€“ the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNCCC) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, held from November 30th to December 12th, 2023. The conference brought together negotiators from nearly 200 parties, world leaders, government representatives, and stakeholders with a shared goal: identifying global solutions to curb the rise in the global temperature and accelerate the green transition, ultimately achieving the Paris Agreement goals.

This year's COP was particularly noteworthy for its heightened focus on food and agriculture, underscoring its critical role in addressing the climate crisis. Our partner, World Farmers' Organisation (WFO), was there with over 70 farmer representatives collaborating in the Farmersโ€™ Constituency. Together with their fellow farmers, they advocated for the crucial role of farmers in climatechange mitigation, pushed for increased global climate ambition in agriculture, and actively negotiated sustainable land management and food security. Their efforts substantially contributed to the Food Systems and Climate Action Agenda.

Natalia Lupi from World Farmers' Organisation took the opportunity to engage with hundreds of visitors at the WFO exhibition booth, showcasing the innovative solutions developed within the Horizon Europe Divine Project. More specifically, she shed light on the transformative power of agridata and the positive impact of boosting the data economy in agriculture to promote resilient and regenerative food production systems on the planet, nature, and the people. Farmers and other stakeholders in the agrifood sector who bear the brunt of the climate crisis were particularly interested in leveraging these data-centered approaches to mitigate climate change-induced damages.

Let's continue making a difference together!

Presentation of the Divine Project at the online gymnasium of the World Farmers' Organisation

On July 4, our partners Anil Turkmayali (International Data Spaces Association), Giulia Antonucci (Engineering Ingegneria Informatica SpA), and Alessandra Diana (FARM EUROPE) presented the Horizon Europe Divine Project at the online gymnasium of the World Farmers' Organisation. Together, they shed light on the immense power of datasharing, dataspaces, and IDS in revolutionizing the agriculture industry.

The session was interactive, fostering engagement with young farmers through a survey. The key findings of this survey are the following:

  1. Farmers require technical support and guidance to facilitate data sharing.
  2. Farmers seek assistance in leveraging and maximizing the value of their data.
  3. Farmers emphasize the significance of accessing high-quality data within a dataspace, as well as the need for an effective mechanism to assess and ensure data quality.

We are committed to addressing these needs and empowering farmers on their digital journey. Together, let's continue leveraging the transformative capabilities of data to drive positive change in the agriculture sector!
